from 'Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror'
…”Play” is something else; It exists, in a society specifically Organized as a demonstration of itself. There is no other way, and those assholes Who would confuse everything with their mirror games Which seem to multiply stakes and possibilities, or At least confuse issues by means of an investing Aura that would corrode the architecture Of the whole in a haze of suppressed...

FORTIES FLICK The shadow of the Venetian blind on the painted wall, Shadows of the snake-plant and cacti, the plaster animals, Focus on the tragic melancholy of the bright stare Into nowhere, a hole like the black holes in space. ‘In bra and panties she sidles to the window: Zip! Up with the blind. A fragile street scene offers itself, With wafer-thin pedestrians who know where they are going. The...

From the NYT obit for George Whitman, founder of...
Overlooking the Seine and facing the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, the store, looking somewhat beat-up behind a Dickensian facade and spread over three floors, has been an offbeat mix of open house and literary commune. K: OK, so in your response, what message do you want to send? Are you trying to play it cool like you don’t really care that much, unless he cares a lot? Or are you like, trying to be sexy and forward?

I mean: I am very interested, but I am also very aware that I will probably start feeling very dumb as I get into it as my brain is out of proper training (and not really trained for this anyhow) and when I don’t feel clever about things I can be inclined to give up on them. But I should try! I mean, it is right there on the internet for free, and it is self-improvement &/whatever.

Another reason to run away to Tokyo: my wonky teeth are fashionable and a thing there. Per Michelle Phan:
“Yaeba teeth” have become more and more trendy in Japan recently. If this term is new to you, in Japanese, the word yaeba means ‘double tooth’, and it describes the fang-y, pushed-out incisors look that usually results from bunched or crowded teeth.
So why have misaligned teeth become...
